Interpreting for Addiction Services

Description

This is a 4-hour synchronous online workshop, designed for experienced interpreters, that will prepare learners to provide interpreting services for patients being seen at Addiction Services, their families and the providers who serve them. After taking this class, participants will be able to: define addiction and differentiate between addiction and physical dependence; describe the key types of substance use disorder treatment, including medically based treatment, counseling and harm reduction strategies; and accurately interpret common terms and utterances commonly used in communications around substance use diagnosis and treatment in medical and social service settings. Participants will receive a copy of the PowerPoint presentation, English vocabulary exercises, conversion exercises, and a glossary of terms used in addiction services.
