Staying Safe

Description

This 5-hours online course is designed to help you stay safe when you work on-site in a healthcare environment – and to help make sure everyone around you stays safe too. We’ll talk both about Infection control, Interpreting in Locked Inpatient Units and about “Occupational Safety” – this is, other steps you can take to keep yourself and everyone around you safe as you make your way in a hospital or clinic setting.

This course starts with a narrated PowerPoint presentation on staying safe in healthcare settings. The presentation is divided into eight parts, and each part is followed by a short quiz, so that you can reinforce and track your own learning. A total of 4 interactive exercises follow the presentation, to give you a chance to apply what you’ve learned. There is a final accumulative test of what you have learned. In order to print out the Certificate of Attendance upon completion, you must complete all of the course activities and receive a final grade of 80% or higher. When you have completed the course, please complete the course evaluation form. Your input will help me make future courses even better.

The course is approved by the International Medical Interpreters Association (IMIA) for 0.5 Continuing Education Units, by the Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters (CCHI) for 5 Continuing Education Hours (this course includes at least 2 performance-based CE hours) and by the Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) for 5 General Continuing Education Credits.
