Interpreting for Pediatric Genetics

Description

This 7-hour online workshop is an opportunity for interpreters to learn to work in the fast-changing field of pediatric genetics. Developed by veteran interpreter trainer, Cindy Roat, and a team of pediatric genetic counselors, this workshop introduces basic concepts in genetics and addresses the role of the genetic counselor, genetic testing, and the most common genetic issues that arise in pediatrics. Technical vocabulary is introduced, and exercises help the interpreter learn the vocabulary both in English and a non-English language. Finally, interpreting exercises based on real-life interactions provide practice. Language-specific materials will be made available in Spanish, Cantonese, Vietnamese and Arabic.
