Description

This interactive seven-hour workshop is designed to prepare experienced healthcare interpreters to provide services in end-of-life situations. It includes:

• An Introduction to Interpreting at the End of Life, including:
  • The difference between hospice, palliative care and ICUs.
  • Working with chaplains.
  • The physiology of death
  • The Kubler-Ross Grief Cycle.
• The Vocabulary of Palliative Care and Hospice:
  • exercises with English vocabulary.
  • exercises in conversion to a language other than English.
• Practice interpreting exercises in end-of-life scenarios.
• Sight Translation of DNR and POLST forms.
• The Impact of Emotion and Belief on Interpreting.

Bilingual glossaries, conversion exercises and interpreting exercises will be provided in Spanish, Russian, Vietnamese, traditional and simplified Chinese, Tagalog and Korean.
